How to do the Iron Mines (southern shiverpeaks) by yourself or w/ partner
EDIT
This has been deemed impossible due to a few more trials
Hence the title, I know how to beat that blasted mission by yourself or with a partner to make it go faster. Well, I've only done it with this build.
R/Mo
Expertise: 12 (9+3)
Wilderness Survival: 11 (7+3+1)
Marksmanship: 12 (11+1)
Healing Prayers: 7
EDIT:
I did the forgotten quest in the desert to get +15 attribute points. The other one is in the southern shiverpeaks which I have still not done yet. Get those +15 attributes from either quest, I suggest doing the one in the desert first though.
Build:
Penetrating attack
Poison arrow
Lightning Reflexes
Troll Unguent
Healing Breeze
Distracting Shot
Barb Trap
Restore life (or other depending if you have a partner)
EDIT:
You can put your cap in place of restore life if soloing to get barrage. If you're not interested in that skill, using concussion shot can help you fight the mursaat.
EDIT:
If you havea ranger partner, if he has a different skill that gives out a condtition like incendiary arrows, bleeding. Then have him/her bring it. Two conditions do help a lot.
Weapons:
Storm bow (or long bow)
Half-moon bow (or short bow)
EDIT:
I did this mission with a major rune of vigor and a +21 fortitude grip (on both bows)
Okay, I did this mission, by myself, without dying (well i couldn't anyway lol). Even though nobody EVER believed me, I did it (haha). It would be faster with a partner of any class as long as they can still be ressed with a 60% death penalty. Also, this is WITHOUT bonus.
EDIT:
You may want a person that is long range, a person with a melee weapon may draw in more enemies than you'd like.
WARNING! Doing this by yourself takes FOREVER it may add an extra hour or two
EDIT:
NOTE: healing breeze is the best option to use when running
EDIT: I tried this again with my friend, and for some reason, the griffon's backed off and never attacked the shadows (uh oh...) Then we did it again and we up to the Seer and then someone used signet of judgement and we both died lol!!!!
Okay, here’s the scoop. The first half, you must run. It sound hard, but it’s not. Right when you start, you see the White Mantle and the Stone Summit fighting. Just pass them and go left, if being attacked use lightning reflexes. Keep heading down the trail till you see the river and a Mursaat should be on the other side of it. Go right and head down the river and do not stop. Then keep going till you see the mountain giants (guys with big rocks) and then go left and pass them while using lightning reflexes. They should give up on you soon and then you can make any necessary heals. Quickly go though because there’s another fight between the White Mantle and the Stone Summit up on a hairpin turn ahead. Pass them again and then run down the lake and go to the trail on the other side. There should be guys in the lake and an artillery, avoid them but if guys are still chasing you, do not stop, they’ll give up soon.
Once you reach the other side of the frozen lake, keep following the trail, there should be plenty of mountain trolls but they’re easy to get past because they’re idiots. But the caution area is on the staircase, lure the trolls out then pass. Keep going and cross a bridge but do not turn right, go going left and run. Soon you’ll meet Blessed griffons, the only hard part about these are that they can use smite. Use healing breeze to heal yourself because troll unguent takes too long to cast but don’t use lightning reflexes because it doesn’t do any good against smite.. Then you’ll meet nice azure shadows who’ll use signet of judgment. Hopefully the blessed griffons will fight these, but that doesn’t always happen. So use healing breeze again and use lightning reflexes since they can melee you. Once in the cave, quickly talk to the seer because 4 more shadows pop up. Then once you talk to the seer, it’s time to get the spectral essence I believe.
To get the essence, exit the cave with the seer which should be the closest exit because the other one is going backwards and go straight across to another cave. There should be a Shadow boss, make sure you distract its Signet of Judgment (HINT: using the shortbow and lightning reflexes can help you kill the shadows faster). The fighting from on is almost hit and run. Try keeping your health over 50%. Use troll unguent and when that’s about to run out (flashing icon) use healing breeze. But try only attracting one shadow at a time. Then you got to kill that squid thing. Use poison a lot because degen helps. Then once you get the essence, get the armor infused and now you get to fight the Mursaat.
Exit the cave again from the cloest exit again but instead of going straight into the cave on the other side, go left and you should see 2 white mantle zealots and one mursaat monk. Forget the monk at the moment and set up a trap on the bridge, then use poison arrow on one of the zealots and lure him into your trap. Once he’s crippled, run back then he should start moving back. Then you shoot a poison arrow at him, this should separate the two zealots, if not, just use lightning reflexes with your short bow and kill them. Once they’re cleared, just kill the Mursaat with the short bow. You will of course notice that the mursaat can’t rape you. So just poison it and use lightning reflexes. If you’re lucky and don’t get hit, use barb trap on it. Once that mursaat is clear, go into the cave behind it. There should be white mantles abbots in there, kill them and then look to the exit of the cave. There is a mursaat monk, a mursaat mesmer and a white mantle abbot. Kill the abbot and it shouldn’t get healed because when I did it, the mursaat monk didn’t care about it. But if he’s getting healed by the mursaat, try drawing him out with hit and run. Once he’s dead, run right past the mursaat because those two are impossible to kill by yourself, and then pass the other guys while using lightning reflexes. You’ll end up in a wide area with a few white mantle zealots and some mursaat elementalists.
Kill the white mantle zealots first then attack the elementalists and clear a way to the fort. (HINT: distract their enervating charge, it’s their strongest attack). The elementalists shouldn’t be hard to kill since they don’t really heal themselves. Once that’s over with, you should see Markis in his fort, kill the other guys in the fort but do not get close to Markis. There should be a mursaat elementalist and White Mantle rangers. Kill the rangers first since they’re the easiest then kill the mursaat. Once their dead, you gotta kill Markis. Pull out the longbow or stormbow and get on the RIGHT side elevated ramp. You need the long/storm bow because the range matters since you’ll less likely get distracted. If you notice, Markis heals over time even when fighting. So use poison arrow on him and lightning reflexes. But try to save your lightning reflexes for when you have to heal. So try not to lose half health and use troll unguent and when that’s about to run out (flashing) use healing breeze, and distract his healing too. The firefight should be about 15 minutes by youself (LOL) but it should be significantly reduced with two people. After that, Jade Armors pop out.
To fight the armors, run out of the fort first. Then once you haven’t attracted any armors, go in and shoot one and it’ll follow you. Have it follow you out of the fort and you should have a lead then use barb trap. Have the armor go over it. It should now be crippled. Now then, just run and shoot. If the effect wears off, set up another trap. The mursaat will be going back and forth, but now you have the advantage. After the armors are gone, YOU WIN!!!
Sorry, but you can’t cap barrage because all these skills are necessary in the mission.
If you’re not clear about this, then I’m sorry =D.

something to take into consideration is the Jade Armors' and Bows' condition immunity.

Actually, you can still cripple them, unless if they changed that. Then this would be pointless. You just can't poison or bleed them.

I think it'd be nice if another person does this just to make sure I just didn't get lucky.

Running the first part has a big chance that Markis will not appear in his post. I hope those who will try will be as lucky as you.
Gratz to your great experience but i think you cannot make a "standard/procedure" out of this experience. And I admire your patience in beating the mission solo.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I'll have to give it a shot. I've got some new canthan armor to infuse anyway.

Great, lol
Sounds like you're bored if you really want to do it lol
I only did it because after i got my armor infused. everybody ditched me. Then i beat the rest by myself.
Then after that, I decided to see if I could run the thing by myself, and i did lol.
But if you ever do do it, please put up anything that you found different or something that's wrong with my guide.

Okay, I've tried this 5 times over, and for some reason, i have never made it again. It's just the running part. It's possible with three people, but not with two or by yourself. I've made it right in front of the seer, but died when the shadows used their last signets.
As of now then, THIS IS DEEMED IMPOSSIBLE
I'm sad now =(
